Cancer Care (Haematology / Oncology)

Humber River Hospital’s Cancer Care Program provides high-quality support for patients living with cancer.

Our team is dedicated to providing the best care to the patients in our Cancer Care Program from consultation and diagnosis to treatment and supportive care. Humber River Hospital is proud to offer patients an integrated cancer care program. The integrated cancer care team consists of members from programs around the hospital, including:

Diagnostic Imaging, Endoscopy, General Medicine, Mental Health, Pharmacy, Palliative Care, Surgery and Clinical Trials.

AccuVein Vein Finder:

AccuVein AV 500 Vein Finder is a visualization technology that illuminates the veins beneath the patient’s skin, improving the ability for nurses to access their patient’s veins on the first attempt. This is incredibly significant for our Cancer Care program, as our nurses and technicians are extra careful to prevent damage to their patients already weakened vascular systems when it comes to inserting IV’s or taking blood samples.

HighTech: MediTech:

Humber River Hospital was the first hospital in the province to integrate the MediTech Oncology Solution, which is used in our Cancer Care Program to order, book, schedule and track each patient’s treatments. This integrated system reduces the risk of error that comes with writing and rewriting information while transferring data between systems, and because all patient information is in one place, it provides a single view of a patient’s progress.

RIVA:

Chemotherapy drugs are some of the most complicated and toxic drugs used in the Hospital. To keep everyone, patients and staff safe in our Cancer Care Clinic and pharmacy, Humber River Hospital uses the RIVA robot to prepare these drugs in a fully contained enclosure.
